giant alien and her cuddlecat by TriffRaff giant alien and her cuddlecat by TriffRaff
More goofing around in Durendal's Legacy-Verse :iconlegacyverse: Alaereen forces have captured a Human colony-city. And while off-duty, one of the occupying soldiers is spending some time with the civilians. She's hoping to soften their view of Alaerin. To show that they aren't a just bunch of evil giant amazons out to stomp on/eat the punny Humans.

Well, she's cerrtainly succeeded in changing some opinions! About Alaereen in general, and (unfortunately) about herself in paticular. ...Now why do you suppose a badass soldier like her was carrying around that children's-cuddle-cat?

I didn't have faith in my ability to draw this scene--and I have the failed sketch to prove it--so I drew this on two pages, then pieced them together in photoshop. Hense the two different crappy perspectives. Oh well, before you can draw good cityscapes, you've got to be able to draw bad ones....

This just popped up on my random faves.

I always really liked this drawing ^^ Its a neat premise.

Its great to see you putting so much effort into Vistalla (sorry if it isn't spelled right ^^; ), but I gotta admit, it would be nice to see you come and play in Legacy some again. Especially now that things are more developed and refined ^^

Well the important thing to remember about being a bad ass is you can carry around what you want or and wear what you want as well. Just beat the living day lights out of anyone who has something to say. Sort of like the quote, "Real men can wear pink." When a mountain of muscle and a short temper says that it tends to be true.

and you said your muse couldn't do the whole 'let's all work together' =p

very cute job and good all-around. Not an artist myself so I can't see the perspective thing you mention ^^;

Ah, but this isn't a 'lets all work together' pic. Its more of a 'we can be friendly overlords' kind of pic. :evileye: Note how number two from the left is using a Human (The soldier that put that hole in her ear? Her squad's assigned guide/lieason? Some unfortunate passer by?) as her own personal cuddle-cat as part of her mockery. :devilish:

the alaerin weren't interested in overlord-ing anyone, just wanted to stop being shot at. sure, probably at the very start of things it was probably more personal, but when things came to light for the higher-ups and the more optimistic lower ranks, that quickly changed.

now individual reasons, that's something else =p For mrs. two-from-the-left, It's altogether possible that she likes those moments of empowerment when her CO isn't berating her. Honestly, I think the one trying to make the effort is in a larger minority than the former.

Oh, I know their aims by now. I was using the term as a flippant way of saying 'admister occupied territory.' And even in a defensive war taking enemy territory is necessary to a) limit the enemy's ability to attack your territory, b) deter the enemy by showing they have more to loose than just troops, and c) be offered back as an incentive to end the fighting. And the more I think about it, administering occupied territory is rife with story/art possibilities...

And actually, I meant the Human was being used as a prop as the one Alaereen mocked the other. Poor sucker was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or vice versa, depending on how much he likes the Alaereen's cheek. ;)

it certainly is, I should get back in the saddle and get my hands dirty again ^^;

hehe, it does depend on the individual, but I'm sure some could be convinced =p

The perspective is a little messed up, I agree, but it doesn't really detract from the picture. My attention is on the different reactions of the Alaerins. It's amazing how you manage to individualize them so well. It would be easy to simply slap similar faces across them all. But you convey a lot with the expressions and poses; even something as simple the angle of their ears adds to the whole. I enjoy pictures that seem to tell stories, and these certainly qualify. :thumbsup:

The particularly like the Alaerin holding the human next to her head. It almost looks like she's listening to something he's saying that is for her ears only.

Then you have the Alaerin with a "what the hell is this?" reaction. :lol: There's always gotta be one in the crowd.

Makes you feel sorry for the apparent ragging the Alaerin on the ground is going to receive later. On the other hand, her idea may work better than anyone expects. Who would've thought a plush toy could bridge the communication gap so well. :cuddle:

Yeah, ever since the facial-fiasco that was the 'wirl-around' pic, I've been making a concious effort to use different faces/facial structures. Good to see it noticed!

The Human is actually being used as a plush toy. Its the first bit of mocking our poor friendly soldier is going to receiving. The first of much... :D

As for the picture though, I thought it was cute and funny!

Okay, I gotta admit, this is a pretty cute pic. Never thought about Alarian dolls before actually. I know some of them like to keep figurines and stuff, but I'd never thought about childhood dolls. I imagine that girl can expect some friendly ribbing when this story gets back to the barracks. lol

As for the story of this pic, I like it. Building some level of trust with civillians would likely be one of the main goals after an occupation. There wouldn't be any hard feelings towards the average human (with exceptions of course), so they would probably be trying to make things as comfortable for them as possible.

...as comfortable as having your town taken over by giant, blue alien women can be, of course. lol

hmm its not as bad as you think. The perspective isn't that much noticeable of a mistake but hey I'm not that good of an artist with backgrounds either. On the flip side I really like the story of this one picture.

A soldier trying to calm their captives but sacrifice her view in front of her comrades. Its cute and pretty down good from how I see it

The most common is the Kaksharash, which is something like a tiger crossed with a cheetah.
